Historic Intermediate Bearded Iris 50-70cm.
Mid Season flowering, May and June in the UK. Re-blooming in Autumn.
“The rich contrasts between crimson, white and yellow, where the standards have a light canary hue, and the drooping petals are a vivid red with a network of white. Blooms early.” From the Biltmore Nursery catalogue for 1912.
As far back as the 1880's it was grown by Thomas Ware and sold as a cut flower in Covent Garden Market.
This iris has caused some heated debates over the years. In the 1930's the American Iris Society even wanted it Black Listed "unworthy of further propagation!
We find it quite a weak-looking variety compared to modern blooms but it does flower well and reliably reblooms here in the garden.
Orders will be shipped in AUTUMN 2025
