Historic French Tall Bearded Iris 90cm.
Mid to Late Season flowering, May, June and even very early July in some parts of the UK.
Strong effect of the opposition of colour.
Golden yellow standards slightly tinted lilac. Wine red falls edged yellow.
The 1951 Cooley's Gardens catalogue described this iris as "a really different iris, a good grower and free bloomer; seldom seen."
Hybridised by Cayeux in the 1930's.
From Rene Cayeux’s catalog for 1939: “S. gold yellow slightly tinted lilac. F. wine red ground quite striated and edged bronzy yellow. Strong effect of the opposition of colour, late flowering. Height 3 ft.”
From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1950: “A French introduction resembling in some ways the popular MARQUITA but with more cinnamon rose color in the falls and considerable of this tint blended in the standards. The ground color is deep cream. A really different iris and a good grower and free bloomer; seldom seen.”
