Unguicularis Mary Barnard - Algerian Iris
A delightful Winter, Unguicularis Iris (Algerian) 23cm.
Flowering from Christmas until March in the UK.
Dainty bluish violet self. It has thin arching dark green leaves.
One of the toughest of evergreen perennials, the Algerian iris give so much reward for so little effort thriving in almost any position except dense shade.
The flowers last well in water if they are gathered in bud just before they unfurl. The scent will fill the room.
The seeds of this species were collected by the great plantsman Edgar Barnard outside Algiers in 1962.
New orders shipped in September 2022.
