Species Iris 90-120cm.
Iris Virginica also known as Southern Blue Flag Iris, native to North America, are marginal plants that are quite rare in propagation, but deserve to be a lot more popular.
Flowering in June and July in the UK.
Wide (7cm) blue-violet flowers. Yellow in the throat and blue veining on white extending onto the yellow. Pale-green sword-like leaves in strong, flat vertical fans.
Best planted in ponds or stream edges at 15cm depth, in full sun or semi shade.
